Topic Description:

This course is an in-depth sociological analysis of prison life through scholarly and inmate writings, documentaries and popular films, and visitor tours of state prisons. Due to the violent nature of prison life and the inclusion of documentaries and inmate writings as part of the course materials, graphic violence will be depicted in readings and at times discussed in class.
