Full Title: Problems in US Foreign Policy in the Post-Cold War Era

Topic Description:

An examination of the contemporary problems in the making of U.S. foreign policy after the Cold War. Topics will include the policy process, the institutional context, decision-making theory and American diplomatic history. The course engages quantitative reasoning, oral presentations, writing and critical thinking skills. Questions will include: How do issues get onto the policy-making agenda? How much power do the executive/legislative branches exercise in shaping policy? Do interest groups play a key role? How is policy formulated and with what effectiveness? In prescribing and processing policy where do the main challenges lie and what solutions might be ideal?
