Full Title: Applying Nonviolence in the World Today

Topic Description:

We live in a violent world.  We can point to violence on many levels and in many situations.  We will examine the reasons why violence is used as a way to respond to conflict in the world today and ways in which nonviolence might be applied instead.  We will explore questions such as these:  What do we mean by nonviolence (or violence)?  How effective has nonviolence been in the past and what can we learn from historical examples?  What are contemporary examples of people working to bring about nonviolent solutions to today's problems?  Students will work in groups to propose nonviolent solutions to a particular problem.
