Topic Description:

A course centered on the biodiversity and ecology of the Baja peninsula coast, Gulf of California, Mexico. General topics related to marine biology will be considered including some basic oceanography. The course will involve identification and classification of animals and plants, and will include consideration of organismal interactions with each other and with their habitats. Emphasis will be on near-shore sandy bottom, rocky shore, coral reef, and desert habitats. A group project is required, summarized in an oral presentation/final report. A journal of activities and experiences is also required
