INQ-277 | The Narrative Life
Topic Description:
What can our stories tell us about ourselves, our world and our culture? Scholars have discovered that we make sense of our everyday lives by telling stories. The manner in which a story is told can often reveal a great deal about the narrator and their world—some stories are illustrative of resilience and redemption, while others appear to highlight struggle and strife. During this May Intensive Learning course, we will explore individual’s narratives and seek to understand what these stories say about the narrator and their lived experiences. Students will serve as naïve scientists seeking to better understand how people make sense of their everyday lives through the act of telling stories. In order to gain this understanding, students will be fully immersed in narrative theory, methods, and data on a daily basis, while working in teams to deeply understand what narratives mean and make meaning of.
