INQ-277 | Kenya: Sustainable Future in the City and on the Savannah
Topic Description:
Our journey will explore sustainable livelihoods of Kenya, livelihoods that promote economic, human, and environmental health and justice in the city, on the savannah and on the coast of the Indian Ocean. We will learn about industries ranging from high fashion to renewable energy, focusing on efforts that are both innovative and rooted in cultural traditions. In the city of Nairobi, we will learn about initiatives to enhance public health, environmental equality and women’s empowerment in the informal settlement of Kibera, Africa’s largest urban slum. Kenya has created some of the most impactful wildlife conservation programs in the world. We will tour three national parks, partaking in game drives for wildlife viewing, and visit a marine sanctuary to explore ecotourism as sustainable livelihood for people and as environmental conservation. We plan to learn from Kenya’s successes as we ask: How can a sustainable future for people and biodiversity be achieved?
