Full Title: The Nonprofit Sector

Topic Description:

This course examines the nonprofit sector through a sociological lens. Students will learn to apply basic sociological concepts, research methods, and theories to the current nonprofit sector in the United States. We will examine how nonprofits relate to and impact social movements, public policy, and the workforce. The necessity of mission statements, community engagement, and program design and evaluation will be covered; the analysis will be macro while stressing that there are many micro components that impact nonprofits in any given place, time, or focus. Students will be required to complete 10 hours of community service outside of class for this course.
