Full Title: The Politics of Health Policy

Topic Description:

Why does the United States have such a unique and fragmented system of healthcare relative to other advanced countries? This course will explore how both the politics of American federalism and coalition formation directed the development of U.S. health policy over the past several decades. The course will focus on using quantitative social science methods to test selected theories from political science as applied to U.S. health policy. The course will culminate with a research project analyzing health policy data and the political, social, and economic characteristics of the American states.
