Topic Description:

Throughout human history we have been dealing with disease causing entities and struggling with ways to control them. As we learn more about these diseases and are confronted with emerging diseases our behavior and infrastructure change. In this course we will cover different organisms, viral, bacterial and fungal, and their role in causing disease. Additionally we will address: How human activities, such as travel, urbanization and climate change, have influenced the emergence of disease? and How have community/governmental responses to emerging diseases decreased or increased prevalence of disease? Our primary focus will be on emerging and reemerging diseases from the 20th and 21st centuries.
