INQ-250BI | Citizen Zoologist

Full Title: Citizen Zoologist

Topic Description:

Is there anything funnier than that honey-badger You-Tube video? I will always remember the time I saw a duck-billed platypus in the wild. Most humans find animals very appealing to watch and wonder at; we are all like citizen zoologists. Why are animals so interesting is the central question of this course. Participants in this course will use the scientific method to examine the three aspects of animal biology that draws our fascination: diversity, conservation, and behavior. Students will explore these topics through lecture, group activities, reading primary and secondary sources, laboratory activities including field trips, and writing. In lab, students will design and execute experiments, analyze and present data in written lab reports. Specifically, we will address through class and lab time: Why are there so many different kinds of animals? What kinds of threats do animals face? Are animals altruistic?
