INQ-177 | Tropical Ecology on a Maya Landscape

Topic Description:

The tropical dry climate of the Yucatan offers a unique opportunity to study general aspects of neotropical ecology simultaneously with the unique dynamics of Yucatan forest and its history. Course participants will spend eight days immersed in an off-the-grid biocultural reserve. Participants will identify plants and bird species and explore dry tropical forests that literally are growing out of an ancient Maya civilization. To expand the experience, students will compare and contrast dry tropical forest and tropical coral reef communities. In groups, students will design, execute, analyze, and present an ecological research project.
