INQ-177 | Arthur through the Ages: The Camelot Legend Past and Present
Topic Description:
In this course we will follow the development of Arthurian legends. Appearing in their earliest surviving form as medieval Welsh oral poetry, elements of these once obscure songs remain relevant in popular culture today. Our main focus of inquiry will be answering how and why this is so. Why have certain elements been and continue to be retold and recast into multiple media, including paintings, books for children and adults, musicals, games, animations, commercial, television series (2020’s Cursed, for example), and especially films? We will explore selected Arthurian retellings from multiple contexts such as historical, literary, and religious as we complete our quest.
