INQ-120 | Sins of Our Past
Full Title: Sins of Our Past
Topic Description:
What are our ethical responsibilities toward the wrongs of the past? This course will examine injustices in the Americas over the past few centuries, and what obligations those of us who live in the present have for correcting them. We will look at ethical models of justice to consider national and individual responsibility in cases of land rights, political violence, and systematic inequality. Are those not directly to blame still accountable? What is the most “just” course of action going forward? We will seek deeper understanding of the historical context and various viewpoints relating to these issues and, applying different ideas of justice, debate potential solutions to historical injustices in Latin America, as well as to contemporary controversies in the United States.
