In a world of 7.4 billion people, what possible difference can one individual have on international human rights? How do international codes of ethics surrounding mass murder and genocide inform our personal responsibilities to others? In this course you will investigate moral and ethical issues surrounding your relationship with the rest of the world. Using psychological theories, you will evaluate genocide through the historic lens of perpetrators, victims and bystanders. More specific topics include a) defining human rights, genocide and war crimes, b) psychology of political leaders, c) cultures of violence and peace, d) hate, prejudice and discrimination, e) helping behaviors and consequences and f) reconciliation, peace keeping and forgiveness.
