INQ-120 | Nietzsche and Jesus
Full Title: Nietzsche and Jesus: The Values and Ethics of Nietzschean and Judeo-Christian Traditions in Conversation
Topic Description:
Traditionally, ethics deals with questions of how we ought to live, behave, and treat others. Both Friedrich Nietzsche and Jesus’ ethics center upon two concrete ethical questions that will be a focus for this course. First, why does a human person have value? And second, how ought we as moral agents treat and/or relate to other human persons, given their value as persons? But Nietzsche and Jesus’ value systems are radically different, largely because Nietzsche revolutionized ethical studies by having a reactionary response to his understanding or interpretation of traditional, Judeo-Christian ethics.
