INQ-120 | Human Survival

Full Title: Human Survival

Topic Description:

Humans are survivors. Whether you consider this phenomenon from an evolutionary or developmental viewpoint or from disaster, adventure or trauma-induced perspectives, the instinct for maintaining one’s existence on this earth either as an individual or as a group of individuals is deeply embedded in our biological make-up. The question this raises is: what does the human drive to survive tell us about human nature and the good life? In this experience you will explore the concept of human survival from physiological, psychological, sociological and ethical perspectives. You will use stories and examples of survival to discover deeper truths about who we are and how we interact with the world around us. The overarching goal is that you will leave this course with a more concrete set of beliefs as to what constitutes the good life as learned through the lens of survival and moral philosophy.
