Full Title: Does Art Matter?

Topic Description:

What is the role of visual art in your life? This class will examine critical aspects of decision-making related to visual art. We will be looking at how we experience art, reasons (some of them) art is made, understand and critique our encounters with art and cultural constructs, and discuss where all these things intersect in assessment of the “value” and use of art. In this class we will examine aesthetic and ethical choices faced by artists, the art world, and the world at large and contextualize our encounters with art. We will explore these questions through readings, a sampling of art methodologies, papers, oral presentations, and gallery/museum visits.
