INQ-120 | An Ethical Affair?
Full Title: An Ethical Affair?: Exploring Communication Ethics within the Context of Infidelity
Topic Description:
The act of infidelity (physical or emotional) within a romantic relationship is often an event that acts as a tipping point—some relationships thrive after infidelity, some merely survive, and yet others suffer their demise. The focus of this course is to dive into the various (un)ethical ways romantic partners communicate about, around, or not at all about their own infidelity. This exploration will require students to come to a deeper understanding about the impacts infidelity can have on romantic relationships and individuals, some of the root causes for infidelity in modern society, and the ethics involved in communicating inside a relationship that is dealing with infidelity. Through reading and discussing multiple ethical theories and lenses and applying them to contemporary portrayals of infidelity in the media, we will work together to collectively and individually understand what it takes to make communication within an affair ethical, thus linking to living a good life.
