INQ-110 | The Tradition of Revenge

Full Title: Wild Justice: The Tradition of Revenge

Topic Description:

The theme of this class is one of the oldest and still pervasive cultural practices: revenge. We often think of vengeance as bloody, illicit, and apt to spiral out of control. Yet revenge is also a course of action associated with those on the margins, who have no access to or have been denied legal recourse, and with the desire to “get one’s due.” The class will examine the complex and ambiguous relationship between revenge, justice, and the law. Is there an ethics of revenge? Is there a structure and aesthetic of revenge?
