INQ-110 | Ones We've Been Waiting For
Full Title: We Are the Ones We’ve Been Waiting For
Topic Description:
”Teacher seeks pupil. Must have earnest desire to save the world. Apply in person.” So says an ad answered by the narrator in Daniel Quinn’s prizewinning and provocative novel Ishmael. If you would answer (or at least be intrigued by) such an advertisement, this class is for you. We will read Quinn, Derrick Jensen, Chellis Glendinning, Richard Manning, and other thinkers to help us discover how we got here (“here” being our planet in its current condition), what keeps us here, and how we might move on to something better. In liberal arts fashion, we’ll examine these questions through the lenses of a variety of subjects, such as literature, economics, religion, anthropology, agriculture, population studies, and ecology. We will read, write, think, talk, and research together.
