INQ-110 | Natives, Newcomers, & Nature

Full Title: Natives, Newcomers, & Nature

Topic Description:

Who is a native? Who is a newcomer? From invasive species that disrupt ecosystems to uninvited humans who enter countries illegally, newcomers can cause problems for natives. But those categories aren’t as clear as they may seem at first. In this class, we learn about scientists and others who fight invasive species as well as politicians who fight against immigration. Underneath it all lies the concept of “nature” – what in these situations counts as natural, and who gets to decide? This course brings science together with literature and history, and includes voices of native people and immigrants.

Counts as Global? No
