INQ-110 | I and Myselves
Full Title: I and Myselves
Topic Description:
Who are we, and how do we become who we want to be? In this course, we will consider identity and the processes by which we change ourselves. What is the “self,” how is it formed, and to what extent might we purposefully employ these processes to transform ourselves or cultivate particular characteristics? Are our words and actions expressions of an already-developed self, or are they formative of an ever-changing identity? In considering the nuances of these questions, we will examine the relationships between practice and speech, belief and ritual, and determinism and freedom, as well as the roles each of these elements plays in identity formation. We will apply these topics to our own selves, as well as contemporary issues.
