Full Title: U.S. Immigration: Past, Present, and Future

Topic Description:

Immigration has been part of this nation’s experience since its founding. The United States has been called a “nation of nations” with good reason since it is populated by people descended from every corner of the globe and recent arrivals. It is embedded in the national narrative that the United States is a welcoming haven for those who seek freedom and opportunity. Immigration, however, has been a thorny issue at different moments in US history as it is today. We will study its past from the colonial era to the present and examine issues associated with contemporary immigration. How can we bring about comprehensive immigration reform that is socially just, upholds the tradition of immigration, and ultimately benefits the future of all who live here?
