HNRS-251 | Chem for a Sustainable Future

Full Title: Chemistry for a Sustainable Future

Topic Description:

Is the Earth getting warmer? If temperatures are rising, is it our fault? Is the world running out of oil? If so, is nuclear power a safe alternative? In this course, we will learn how to evaluate controversial and interrelated issues such as these. Along the way, we will learn about environmental issues and the chemistry needed to better understand them. You will be challenged to apply the scientific method and the principles of chemistry in an effort to sift through the often-misleading arguments on both sides of environmental issues that affect you, our nation, and our world. Ultimately, we will consider whether chemistry can help us find a path forward to a sustainable future.
