Topic Description:

What is the relationship between ethics and democracy? In order to function, do different versions of democracy require distinct ethical norms to prevail in the broader society? How should those ethical ideas inform the thinking and action of democratic citizens and leaders? This course engages with representative philosophical and political texts, relating them to different theories of ethics, democracy, and leadership. Students will learn how to explain, apply, and evaluate course content in rigorous writing assignments, oral presentations, and an engagement project.
