Topic Description:
In this course we will study retellings of classic stories from around the world and across time in multiple genres: oral traditions, drama, fiction, film, poetry and art. As we explore these works we will analyze elements of their language, structure, purpose, and context. How do these stories shift in form and logic as they move across time, the world, and genres? We will use collaborative research and presentation to study specific historical and cultural contexts of various retellings. Finally, we will propose ways the stories we’ve examined may be articulated for audiences today or in the near future.     Â
